Hadrons (π ± , K ± and proton) were detected at 16 • with an average momentum =2.35 GeV/c and a transverse momentum (pT) coverage from 0.60 to 0.68 GeV/c. Asymmetries from the 3 He target were observed to be non-zero for π ± production when the target was polarized transversely in the horizontal plane. The π + and π − asymmetries have opposite signs, analogous to the behavior of ALT in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering.

0 Single Spin Asymmetries in Semi - Inclusive Electroproduction : Access to Transversity

We discuss the quark transversity distribution function and a possible way to access it through the measurement of single spin azimuthal asymmetry in semiinclusive single pion electroproduction on a transversely polarized target. At leading order in 1/Q, the cross section for a hard scattering process is given by the convolution of a hard part and a soft part. The former describes the scatterin...

One of the most interesting consequence of non-zero intrinsic transverse momentum of partons in the nucleon is the nontrivial azimuthal dependence of the cross section of hard scattering processes. Many of the observable asymmetries contain unknown functions which provide essential information on the quark and gluon structure. Several of them have been studied in the last few years; we discuss ...

Semi-inclusive Hadron-hadron Transverse Spin Asymmetries and Their Implication for Polarized Dis

We discuss 1 a possible explanation of the 25 year old mystery of the large transverse spin asymmetries found in many semi-inclusive hadron-hadron reactions. We obtain the first reliable information about the transverse polarized quark densities ∆T q(x) and we find surprising implications for the usual, longitudinal, polarized DIS. The plan of the presentation is as follows: 1) A brief reminder...

Novel Transversity Properties in SIDIS

We consider a rescattering mechanism to calculate a leading twist T -odd pion fragmentation function, a candidate for filtering the transversity properties of the nucleon. We evaluate the single spin azimuthal asymmetry for a transversely polarized target in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (for HERMES kinematics) and the double T -odd cos2φ asymmetry in this framework. Introduction The...

Single/Double-Spin Asymmetry Measurements of Semi-Inclusive Pion Electroproduction on a Transversely Polarized He Target through Deep Inelastic Scattering

Parton distribution functions, which represent the flavor and spin structure of the nucleon, provide invaluable information in illuminating quantum chromodynamics in the confinement region. Among various processes that measure such parton distribution functions, semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering is regarded as one of the golden channels to access transverse momentum dependent parton dist...
